Lifeguard Tower Exhibition Part 2

Summer is here and LA County lifeguard towers are getting a makeover. Image Options donated and completed the outlined pattern printing for the lifeguard tower walls and rooftop. Through the creators of this wonderful program, Portraits of Hope, all the lifeguard tower panels were painted by youngsters and adults who often face medical, physical, or socio-economic challenges.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center

Pacific Marine Mammal Center is a non-profit organization that has been rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured marine mammals such as seals and sea lions for nearly 40 years. They are the only organization in all of Orange County licensed to treat marine mammals, and upon the patient’s recovery they release them back into the wild for a second chance at life.

The donor sign that Image Options printed was to recognize a large contributor, The Annenberg Foundation, who made it possible for PMMC to renovate part of their downstairs ICU pens. Because of their sizable contribution, PMMC was able to add heated flooring, expand their nursery units and fish prep areas which drastically enhanced their ability to care for their most critical patients. Image Options also printed a smaller sign that recognized all notable donors and their contributions to the entire renovation project. PMMC felt it was important to recognize the selflessness and generosity of the many organizations who played a role in enhancing their Center, and they feel confident that when the donors come to visit they will be pleased with their recognition board.

Image Options has been extremely generous to PMMC over the years. PMMC has 6 3ft x 4ft poster boards of animal photos hanging in their educational classroom that help educate thousands of children and members of the public each year on marine mammals. They also use a plethora of 2ft x 3ft boards created by Image Options that showcase photos of their rescues, releases, and rehabilitation processes to approximately 30 tradeshows each year. The images bring to life some of their most memorable moments within their organization, and also help people to clearly understand the important work that takes place at PMMC. They feel fortunate to have a partnership with Image Options, and have rarely run across another company that has shown half as much generosity.

Lifeguard Tower Exhibition Part 1

The latest remarkable project from Portraits of Hope is in the works and Image Options is lending a helping hand. Portraits of Hope was developed initially for seriously ill and physically disabled children. They conceive and develop one-of-a-kind motivational art projects that merge the production of dynamic public art works with creative therapy for hospitalized children and civic education for students of all ages. The Portraits of Hope program is aimed at enriching the lives of children and adults, many who may be coping with adversity or serious illness through their participation in creative, educational, high-profile, one-of-a-kind projects.

The Project

156 of LA County’s lifeguard towers from Hermosa Beach all the way up to Zuma Beach will be getting a makeover thru Portraits of Hope. For five months, LA’s legendary beach towers will come to life in vivid designs and colors – transforming the nation’s most recognized coastline. The tower artwork will be created on temporary, professionally installed, soft-material, and flex thin-board panels that will be applied onto the outer surface of the tower structure itself. The anticipated start of the 5-month exhibition will be May 1, 2010, and the installation will remain through the end of September 2010.

The Process

Image Options received 2,125 sheets of already die cut Coroplast which is about 85,000 square feet of material and 29,400 square feet of vinyl. The Coroplast is printing on their 10ft. wide Vutek QS flatbed printers and the vinyl is prining on their 16ft. wide Vutek 5330. The prints are of outlined patterns that will then be turned over to youngsters and adults who often face medical, physical, or socio-economic challenges to paint.

Check back here later this summer to see photos of these painted panels installed on lifeguard towers throughout LA County’s beaches.
