Skechers – In a galaxy far, far away!

“When it comes to iconic properties, there’s nothing in the entertainment world bigger than ‘Star Wars,’ ” said Michael Greenberg, Skechers’ president. That is why it is no surprise that with the launch of the new co-branded “Star Wars” collection Image Options creative arm, Refraction Group, was asked to bring the icon to a Skechers retail window display near you.

Starting with their flagship location in Torrance, CA at Del Amo Fashion Center, Refraction Group created a 9 foot dimensional Death Star with working lights that is definitely out of this world. The team worked feverishly for long long hours getting this iconic window perfect for the installation team to install overnight. The final window included the Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighters and the X-Wing along with floating “Star Wars’ collection shoes to complete the saga.

See below for final window installation and a glimpse into the creative process.

The Nike Innovation Space provided and opportunity to connect with key US media outlets, including USA Today, ESPN, Sports Illustrated and the Today Show, who were unable to send a representative to the Global Beijing Innovation Summit. Journalists were given an in-depth briefing on Nike’s breakthrough footwear, apparel and equipment designs.

At Nike’s Culver City office, this space was covered with mostly adhesive back vinyl prints and a torch was cut out of 1″ foam to give it a 3D appearance.

Diane von Furstenberg’s “Journey of a Dress” Exhibition at Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Inside “Journey of a Dress”

“You launch something and it has a life of its own, independent of me,” says designer Diane von Furstenberg, marveling at the 200 mannequins ranged on tiered platforms in the cavernous ground floor of the former May Company department store on Los Angeles’s Wilshire Boulevard, adjacent to LACMA. Those custom Pucci mannequins, modeled with Diane’s own Nefertiti cheekbones and wide mouth, are all dressed in variations of the iconic wrap dress that she launched in 1974 for an exhibition celebrating its 40th anniversary. “I mean this dress is in sociology class!” Diane laughs. “I took it for granted,” she adds, “and sometimes I even resented it—even though it paid all my bills!”

Trash For Teachers Making Headlines

Using IO “Trash” a group of enthusiastic Animo Venice Charter High School students are continuing their innovative machine at NATIONALS.
The 6 freshman entered in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest where they needed to  create a giant chain reaction in order to complete a simple task-erase a chalkboard. The machine is a combination of all of the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) genres into one patience testing contraption.

The students spent every Saturday for 2 months working on the project and entered in the LA county regional competition where they won First Place and are now headed to Nationals in Wisconsin. We are looking to fundraise money to pay for transportation and hotels while on their quest to win the national competition.

Throwback Thursday – Newcastle’s Ligher Side of Dark

This creative project of yesterdays past was a very exciting one that should not be soon forgotten. Image Options produced the graphics and managed the fabrication and installation for this unique billboard which was located at the Gaslamp district in San Diego California. The concept of this piece was the vision of ad agency Vitro and artists Ellis Gallagher & Pablo Power.

The billboard graphics were printed on Avery adhesive back vinyl and mounted to Dibond panels. Once the panels were completed they were shipped to New York for street artists Ellis Gallagher & Pablo Power to perform their magic. 3,000 real Newcastle Brown Ale bottle caps were strategically placed, bent, stacked and arranged to form a cool face and arm reaching for a glass of the Newcastle.

The panels were then shipped back to San Diego, California where Image Options completed the installation of this amazing billboard of yesterdays past.
